Oregon defensive end/linebacker Dion Jordan announced he will have surgery to repair a torn labrum and will be down 3-4 months. That takes him out of any rookie camp, organized team activities and possible minicamp. Jordan could miss everything before training camp.
Jordan is one of the most intriguing pass rushers in the draft. He has tremendous athletic ability to go along with a 6-foot-7, 243-pound frame. He's been compared to Julian Peterson and Aldon Smith.

Bryant outscores Nowitzki as Lakers top Mavs
DALLAS (AP) ? Kobe Bryant had 38 points to win a scoring duel with Dirk Nowitzki, and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Dallas Mavericks 103-99 Sunday in a matchup of teams fighting to get in the playoff race.
With chants of MVP from a strong contingent of Lakers fans, Bryant scored 14 in the fourth, including seven in the final 3 minutes to hold off a spirited Dallas effort.
Nowitzki finished with 30 points and 13 rebounds for the Mavericks, who had a chance to pull virtually even with the Lakers for ninth place in the Western Conference. Houston is in eighth, with a cushion of several games.
Bryant, who also had 12 rebounds and seven assists, was playing in Mark Cuban's building two days after the outspoken Dallas owner suggested in a radio interview that the Lakers might have to consider dumping the five-time NBA champion through the amnesty clause.
Steve Nash had 13 of his 20 in the second half against his former team in a game that neither team led by more than six.
The Lakers went up 94-90 with three free throws after O.J. Mayo was called for a foul and a technical on a drive by Bryant. It was Mayo's fifth foul, and he jumped around wildly after the call. Nash made the technical free throw before Bryant's pair.
Nowitzki was called for a technical earlier in the quarter after a similar display when he missed a shot during a physical sequence with Metta World Peace.
Bryant scored again from just inside the arc for a 94-92 lead, and Nash answered Mayo's first 3-pointer of the game with his third from long range in the second half for a 99-95 lead.
Bryant did it again in the final minute after Nowitzki missed a free throw on a potential three-point play, hitting a jumper for a 101-97 lead. Nowitzki scored to make it a two-point game, and World Peace missed a free throw to give Dallas a chance to tie. Mayo missed a 3-pointer with about 5 seconds left.
Dwight Howard had three big free throws in the fourth and finished with nine points and 13 rebounds.
Bryant had already put on a display of shooting, driving and shot-blocking when he took over early in the fourth, but Nowitzki and the Mavericks kept answering.
Bryant scored on three straight possessions with Jae Crowder guarding him and had the ball again the fourth time down when Nowitzki ran over to help. Bryant's pass was intercepted by Vince Carter, and Mike James fed Nowitzki for a dunk and a 90-87 Dallas lead.
Nowitzki and Bryant each scored 16 in the first half, which ended in a 54-all tie, and kept it up in third quarter, finishing that period with 24 apiece.
The Lakers had the biggest lead at six ? several times ? and the Mavericks erased each one through three quarters. Nowitzki's 3-pointer from the top of the key late in the third made him 4 of 4 from long range and capped a 7-0 run for a 71-70 Dallas lead, but Bryant scored twice on drives after a timeout to put the Lakers in front again.
In the first half, Nowitzki was 5 of 8 from the floor, made both 3-pointers and all four free throws and led everyone with eight rebounds. Bryant, meanwhile, was 3 of 4 from long range, including a pair from well behind the arc, but just 1 of 6 inside the line. He had a game-high six assists before halftime.
NOTES: Bryant got a technical in the first quarter when he gestured at referee Ken Mauer after Darren Collison stole ball. It was his league-leading 13th technical ? one ahead of DeMarcus Cousins of Sacramento. A one-game suspension is in order when a player reaches 16 technicals. ... Mavericks C Chris Kaman entered the game in the second quarter after missing 10 straight games with a concussion. ... Relativity Moves 'Turkeys' Up a Year; Amy Poehler Joins Voice Cast (Exclusive)
NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) - Relativity Media has moved up its animated film "Turkeys" by a year and will release it November 1, multiple individuals close to the project told TheWrap. In addition, Amy Poehler has joined the voice cast for the film, which Relativity and Reel FX are co-producing and co-financing, TheWrap has learned.
The movie had been scheduled to debut November 14, 2014, but Relativity and Reel FX made the aggressive scheduling move based on early footage, according to two of those individuals. Development on the project began in June 2009 and physical production began in January 2011.
Poehler, who joins Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson, will voice the female lead.
Executives at the studio met about the film this week, weighing the challenges the move will pose to the filmmaking, marketing, sponsorship and merchandising teams with the opportunity to seize this Thanksgiving's family market.
DreamWorks Animation recently moved "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" from November 1 to March 2014, opening the door for kid-friendly fare before the November 22 opening of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire." Most of the other movies scheduled for October and November will cater to more mature audiences, spanning genres like science fiction ("Gravity," "Ender's Game"), horror ("Paranormal Activity 5," "Carrie") and action ("Malavita," "Thor: The Dark World").
Jeffrey Katzenberg's animation house has released a movie in the fall for eight of the last nine years, but its new distribution partner, Fox, moved "Peabody" to March, a month when the studio has had prior success with the "Ice Age" franchise.
DreamWorks Animation had a costly miss last November with "Rise of the Guardians," which grossed $301 million at the box office - a healthy sum, but not enough to cover costs. The company is expected to take a hefty write-down as a result in its upcoming fourth quarter earnings.
Reel FX, the Dallas-based animation and visual effects studio behind "Turkeys," actually sold "Guardians" to DWA five years ago.
"Turkeys" features the voices of Wilson and Harrelson as two spunky birds that take a time machine back to the first Thanksgiving. They want to expunge turkeys from Thanksgiving's culinary tradition. Lesley Nicol of "Downton Abbey," George Takei of "Star Trek" fame, Keith David and Colm Meaney have also been cast. Dan Fogler was already lending his voice.
Jimmy Hayward is directing the film from a script by Craig Mazin, David I. Stern, John J. Strauss.

PayPal takes mobile payment service to Europe
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - PayPal launched a European version of its PayPal Here mobile payments service for small merchants on Thursday as the online payments division of eBay Inc steps up competition with rivals, including Square Inc.
PayPal unveiled a new device, about the size of a smartphone, that allows small merchants to accept credit and debit cards under a more-stringent and complex system in Europe known as Chip and PIN.
The gadget connects to a new PayPal app that merchants can run on Apple Inc iPhones and Android-based smartphones.
PayPal said it will launch the service in the United Kingdom this summer, but plans to release it in other European countries later.
PayPal is the largest online payments business, but it is battling with a host of well-funded start-ups that are chipping away at its dominance.
Square, headed by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, attracted thousands of small merchants in recent years by offering a free card reader that attaches to smartphones and handles payments for a flat 2.75 percent fee.
Last year, PayPal launched a rival service called PayPal Here in the United States and several other countries, including Japan and Australia.
The new European version of PayPal Here comes with a different device designed from scratch by the company's U.K. team because of the more complex Chip and PIN system in the region. The approach in the United States, which relies on older magnetic stripes on cards, is considered simpler but potentially less secure.
"Trying to figure out how to make Chip and PIN to work in these devices has been hard," said Rick Oglesby, a payments industry expert at Aite Group. "The gadgets so far have been fairly expensive and big and clunky."
Square has yet to launch a service in Europe. It expanded into Canada last year, but that market does not require smaller merchants to use Chip and PIN technology yet, Oglesby noted.
PayPal said on Thursday that it will charge merchants for the European PayPal Here device. It did not say what the price will be, but a spokesman noted that it will be a "nominal" fee.
The company also plans to charge a per-fee transaction that will be similar to the 2.75 percent it charges small merchants in United States.
"For Chip and PIN devices, it's not realistic to bring the cost down to zero," Oglesby said. "That tends to temper the demand a little bit. But it also weeds out really small merchants and individuals who won't use it as much."

How immigration threatens to tear the GOP apart
The Republican political establishment sees immigration reform as a political necessity. Much of the party?s base sees it as the end of the rule of law.
And therein lies the problem for a party trying to pick itself up off the mat following an across-the-board defeat in 2012.

?The GOP faces a choice between the politics of math and the politics of anecdote,? explained Glen Bolger, a prominent Republican pollster. ?The politics of math is pretty clear. The numbers of Hispanics are growing, and politically we cannot afford to get a shrinking piece of a growing pie. The politics of anecdote is that illegal immigrants are only taking jobs, selling drugs, and joining gangs. That?s clearly not the case, and we cannot pretend that it is.?
Arizona Republican Sen.?John McCain?s testy townhall?typifies the divide between a party in Washington that, for the most part, simply wants to find a way to get to a ?yes? on immigration reform and an activist base who views that effort as contradictory to the foundational principles of the party.
McCain repeatedly sought to emphasize the need to find a responsible solution for the 11 million undocumented workers in the country but found himself shouted down and challenged by a handful of attendees.
While the back and forth between McCain and his constituents has drawn most of the attention, there?s ample evidence that there?s plenty of resistance among rank-and-file Republicans for the sorts of common-ground solutions that many of the party?s elected leaders seem set on pursuing.
In a Washington Post-ABC poll conducted earlier this month, in fact, a majority of self-identified Republicans said they opposed a path to citizenship ? the key plank of a comprehensive immigration reform measure. That was a marked contrast to the majority support for a path to citizenship among Democrats and independents.
Here?s the breakdown:
What those numbers suggest is that there could be primary trouble for Republicans who vote for any sort of comprehensive immigration reform plan that includes a path to citizenship. And that could be a major disincentive for GOP politicians to support such a proposal ? a short-term gain that would almost certainly provide longer-term pain for the party.
(We saw this sort of short-term political calculus during the 2012 GOP presidential primaries. Mitt Romney adopted a position that undocumented workers should ?self deport? in hopes of staying in the good graces of the party?s base. That position may have helped him win the primary, but cost him dearly in the general election as he won a meager 27 percent of Hispanic voters.)
It?s not clear how Republicans can bridge the growing divide between how the establishment views immigration (a political problem that needs to be solved yesterday) and how some significant portion of the base views it (a foundational principle about not rewarding rule-breakers).
Henry Barbour, part of a group within the Republican National Committee tasked with figuring out what went wrong in 2012 and how to fix it in future elections, says that the key to solving the party?s problems with Latinos is less about specific policies than about changing how the GOP talks to the Hispanic community.??Our issue with Hispanic voters is as much about tone and attitude as it is about immigration reform,? Barbour explains.
The problem inherent in that statement, of course, is that those willing to take the hardest line, rhetorically speaking, on immigration tend to win Republican primaries. And, politicians ? in both parties ? always put political survival ahead of all other concerns.
If Republicans go through another election cycle in 2014 in which candidates espousing strong opposition to any sort of compromise on immigration are rewarded by winning primaries, it could well do permanent damage to the party?s standing in the Hispanic community and, by extension, its paths to the White House in 2016 and beyond.
It?s no exaggeration then to say that getting immigration right, politically speaking, is absolutely critical to Republicans? electoral hopes over the next decade or more.
